When The Laiken – a luxury wedding and event venue on the shores of Lake Travis – needed a pool that matched the scale and ambition of their vision, they came to Watercolor Pools.
What followed was one of the most technically demanding and visually striking builds in our portfolio. A resort-style modern pool with negative edge, full-length sun shelf with in-water lounging and a swim-up bar — all positioned to take advantage of one of the most spectacular views in the Texas Hill Country.

THE BUILD
Built for hospitality. Designed to last.
Commercial pool builds are a different discipline to residential work. The engineering tolerances are tighter, the usage volumes are higher, and the visual standard has to hold up under professional photography and daily scrutiny from hundreds of guests.
At The Laiken, every element of the pool was specified with that reality in mind.
NEGATIVE EDGE
The pool features over 120 linear feet of negative edge — one of the longest in any Central Texas build. The negative edge engineering creates a seamless visual connection between the water surface and the Lake Travis horizon beyond, with the overflow disappearing into a catch basin below. At this scale, the hydraulic engineering, pump sizing, and water management requirements are significantly more complex than a standard residential negative edge — and the visual payoff is proportional.
FULL-LENGTH SUN SHELF
A full-length in-water tanning shelf runs the width of the pool, fitted with custom in-water lounge chairs. Designed to accommodate multiple guests simultaneously and to photograph beautifully from the venue’s elevated vantage points.
SWIM-UP BAR & PAVILION
The covered pavilion structure compliments the swim-up bar seating extends the pool’s usability as an event space, providing shade, structure, and a natural gathering point for guests.
NIGHT LIGHTING
A full LED lighting package – underwater, deck-level, and architectural – was specified to ensure the pool reads as a visual centrepiece in the evening, supporting The Laiken’s event photography and ambiance.
SITE ENGINEERING
The elevated lakefront site presented specific challenges around drainage, water management, and structural load. The pool is engineered to perform to commercial standards in a setting where the environment — wind, water levels, temperature — creates conditions a standard residential build would never encounter.
